Bikehenge captures an unusual collection of abandoned bicycles nestled among the oak-covered hills above Healdsburg, a small town in Northern California's Sonoma County wine region. The story begins in 1995, when a 15-year-old local boy, mountain biking through the hills, discovered a collection of old bicycles discarded in the brush. He pulled them from the weeds, stood them upright, and began arranging them along the hillside. He and his mother called the place “bike hill.”

The bicycles remained, and over the years, others discovered and rearranged them. The informal installation gradually became part of local folklore, eventually earning the names “Bike's Peak” and “Bike-Henge.” Today, the rusting bicycles sit among the grass and oaks of Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve, a protected landscape of more than 150 acres overlooking the town. Kim photographed the installation more than thirty years after its creation, capturing an unlikely piece of local history slowly being reclaimed by the natural world.

Originally created for WEST OF MORNING — Analog Landscapes of Northern California, Kim’s inaugural exhibition at fís Gallery, this Studio Edition offers another way to collect the work while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the original photograph.

Each print is produced on Hahnemühle fine art paper, presented with a 3-inch archival white mat, and finished in a handcrafted solid wood frame with a 1.6-inch-wide profile, made in Germany. Available in black, white, or natural oak, each Studio Edition arrives ready to hang.
