First Signs
First Signs captures a vineyard at the beginning of spring along Magnolia Lane in Healdsburg, a small town in Northern California's Sonoma County wine region. Photographed during bud break, when the first tender shoots emerge from dormant grapevines, the image reveals a quiet turning point in the agricultural year. The vines, shaped by decades of pruning and growth, stand in orderly rows, their twisted trunks and branches creating an intricate pattern against the pale spring sky.
Magnolia Lane is part of a familiar walking route for Kim, a place he returns to throughout the changing seasons. In early spring, the vineyards offer few of the lush visual cues associated with California wine country. Instead, their beauty lies in the sculptural forms of the vines and the almost imperceptible signs of renewal. First Signs captures this brief interval between winter's stillness and the arrival of another growing season.
Created as part of WEST OF MORNING — Analog Landscapes of Northern California, the body of work that inspired Kim’s inaugural exhibition at fís Gallery, this Studio Edition offers another way to collect the photograph while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the original.
Each print is produced on Hahnemühle fine art paper, presented with a 3-inch archival white mat, and finished in a handcrafted solid wood frame with a 1.6-inch-wide profile, made in Germany. Available in black, white, or natural oak, each Studio Edition arrives ready to hang.
