The Long Exhale
Photographed on Fitch Mountain, overlooking Healdsburg in Northern California's Sonoma County, The Long Exhale captures a familiar stretch of woodland through Kim Carroll's Hasselblad 500CM medium-format film camera. Kim has walked these trails for years, returning to the mountain through changing seasons and light, among redwoods, Douglas fir, madrone, and oak.
The photograph takes its name from a particular point along the trail, where the steady climb gives way to descent. It is a moment of quiet release, when the effort of the ascent is behind you and the path continues beneath the forest canopy. Originally created for *WEST OF MORNING — Analog Landscapes of Northern California*, Kim’s inaugural exhibition at fís Gallery, this Studio Edition offers another way to collect the work while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the original photograph.
Each print is produced on Hahnemühle fine art paper, presented with a 3-inch archival white mat, and finished in a handcrafted solid wood frame with a 1.6-inch-wide profile, made in Germany. Available in black, white, or natural oak, each Studio Edition arrives ready to hang.
