Rural Legends
Rural Legends was photographed outside Petaluma, California, using medium format film on a Hasselblad 500CM. Dairy farming has long been woven into the agricultural history of this part of Sonoma County, where cattle still graze across the rolling grasslands surrounding the city.
The numbered ear tags identify individual animals within the herd, a practical detail of working farm life that sits almost humorously against the grandeur of the scene. Kim's title gives the cattle their due. Standing beneath an old oak in open pasture, they become something larger than livestock: familiar characters in a Northern California landscape shaped by generations of agriculture.
Originally created for WEST OF MORNING — Analog Landscapes of Northern California, Kim’s inaugural exhibition at fís Gallery, this Studio Edition brings the photograph into a made-to-order format for the home.
Each print is produced on Hahnemühle fine art paper, presented with a 3-inch archival white mat, and finished in a handcrafted solid wood frame made in Germany. Each Studio Edition arrives ready to hang.
